So what is The Red Tent?

The Moon Lodge is simply a gathering of women that occurs at the new moon when girls & women are most in need
of support, rest & reflection. This is a timeless tradition observed by ancient cultures which serves as a regular forum for empowering women’s sense of selfhood.

Welcome to Your Womanhood

Traditionally, girls would start attending the Red Tent when their bodies started to cycle with the moon. It was here they would learn about their fertility cycles & every facet of being a woman.

Not the clinical info covered by school sex education or teen mags but the mystical understanding of their cyclic nature as a woman & how to caretake themselves on a cyclic basis.

This includes understanding the effect of the lunar & seasonal cycles on our emotions, energy levels & psychological states & how to create balance in all three with a cyclic approach to self-care. This ‘Secret Women’s Business’ empowers women of all ages to honor their bodies as temples & make self-honoring choices.

‘Being publicly sexual has become the only acceptable way for girls
to demonstrate maturity.’

Becoming Your Own Woman

The ancient custom of initiating young women when they begin their fertility cycle into the monthly gathering of older women supports them through the natural process of individuation from their Mums.

Without this transition being formerly marked & young women being afforded a larger circle of support this can be a tense time behind closed doors with teenage girls rebelling against their mothers in order to assert their own feminine identity.

Initiating teenage girls into a circle of trusted older women provides them with a network who they can turn to when they need guidance, rather than being blindly led by their peers or seeking guidance from magazines sponsored by a corporate agenda.

This provides an authentic foundation of practical support so they can make the necessary errors in judgment that are universal on the road to wisdom. This is a safeguard that is even more pertinent in our modern world which preys upon the naivete of young women and their need to be liked & affirmed as sexually attractive.

Welcoming girls to their womanhood affirms being a woman is worth celebrating & that it is safe for us to gather & speak our truth. Marking this rite of passage also helps both mother & daughter to acknowledge that the childhood phase has passed so new responsibilities must be accepted if new freedoms are to be granted.

Knowledge is Power. When women take time to connect with their innermost thoughts & feelings they can better respond to their needs.

Secret Wisdom

The Red Tent was also where women learned the sacred arts of healing, channeling, dream analysis & divination on the understanding that our inner senses; clairvoyance (clear seeing), clairsentience (clear sensing), clairaudience (clear hearing) & intuition (inner guidance) are amplified when we gather in alignment with the moon. By honing these inner senses young women develop the skills to discern potential danger & avert it by learning to read the signs.

In the Red Tent, women’s deepest secrets were shared so no woman had to carry her burdens alone. Wisdom was also imparted through the oral tradition of storytelling that provided an archetypal framework for growing beyond our perceived challenges.

The Red Tent was a safe & supportive environment where young women learned about the responsibility of their fertility cycle & the importance of their role as women in society.

Why The Red Tent Is Held at New Moon

The new moon is the time of the month, 2 weeks after the full moon when we tend to feel tired, inward & vulnerable. It’s when our insecurities & old wounds surface… so we often retreat from others. If we don’t accept & heal our shadow we don’t mature so we fear aging and make immature choices that create drama in our lives.

It is, for this reason, women of all indigenous societies for thousands of years gathered together at his time to reflect upon their lives, offering each other emotional support & healing. This takes the pressure off partners to ‘make a woman happy’. By taking responsibility for our emotional well being through a monthly practice we also lessen our need for emotional comfort through overeating, as the sacral energy center which resides in the abdomen is governed by the moon. When women don’t honor their emotional needs the result is gluttony, as the inner child attempts to self-soothe.

The new moon is also the time when most women experience their ‘moon time’ or ‘heavenly water’ as it was known in traditional Chinese medicine. So this custom offered a time out for women, enabling them to turn inwards to rest & replenish.

The Cultural Cost of the Omission of The Red Tent

The omission of Red Tents means many modern women don’t take regular time to process their emotions so we see eating disorders as commonplace, particularly amongst teenage girls. Other feminine health complaints such as menstrual disorders & depression are also often alleviated through this simple, cyclic practice. Without this cyclic acceptance of our need to give back to the self, women burn out by over-giving in accordance with patriarchal expectations of a ‘good woman’. This is symbolically illustrated by the Western epidemic of breast cancer in the ‘civilized world’ where women are culturally expected to nurture 24/7 without asking for anything in return. Just as we need to breathe in before breathing out, so too women need to take time & sustenance for themselves if they are to sustain their output.

Red Tent/ Moon Lodge Ceremony

Thank you for your interest in the Moon Lodge. I am so honored and thrilled to be chosen to hold space for such a sacred ceremony. I know the time is now for the Divine Feminine to step into our power and be supported by the divine masculine and not by force, as it has been for the last 250 years of patriarchy, but by allowing it with ease as they will have no choice after we show up completely for ourselves. When we RE-member the power of our sacred centers: heart, womb, and yoni (pussy) we will begin to RECLAIM the divinity that has been there ALL along.

Full Moon Ceremony + Dance

A moon circle is a sacred gathering of women, who usually come together to honour and celebrate the new and full moon.

In ancient communities, this circle was used to call in the divine feminine, and as a way of grounding, centering, and receiving higher wisdom.

A moon circle is a safe space, where women can enjoy being in sacred sisterhood, feel supported and witnessed. Everything that happens in circle remains privately in the circle, which allows women to truly open up, share, and be authentic.

If you’re new to moon circles, you can think of them like a yoga class or therapy group, but for your soul; infused with play, transformation, and magic.

Women and the moon

Women are inextricably linked to the moon. She has a 29 day cycle, which mirrors our menstrual cycle. She has four main phases, and so do we.

Men live by the sun, and women live by the moon. This is the way it is; the way it has always been.

Many will argue that because we can’t see the energy and forces of the moon, they don’t exist. But this is just one of many subconscious things—astrology, faith, love—that cannot be explained or understood with science. And that doesn’t make it less than or inferior to anything else that can be.

Working with the moon is a wonderful way to honour and celebrate your own sacred cycle as a woman, and tune in to mumma nature and the energy of the moon. It’s a way to create space, rhythm, and harmony; in your days, weeks, and months. It’s a powerful, underutilised tool and strength that only we, as women, have access to.

The power of attending a moon circle

If you’re new to working with the moon, a moon circle is a wonderful way to initiate yourself into this world, and dip your toes in her waters.

You can connect with like-minded women, form friendships, and experience the magic of sisterhood.

You can be yourself, speak your truth, and feel confident and comfortable within your body. Because this circle is a sanctuary for women who are craving a safe, authentic space, free of judgement. For we have been judged, criticised, and shamed for lifetimes.

You can be there to support other women, as they share their hopes and dreams and struggles; and be a part of their healing and transformation, as well as your own.

A moon circle not only builds a community, and has the power to heal all the women in the circle; but has the power to extend that healing to each of those women’s wider communities, and create a far-reaching ripple effect that changes the world.

The full moon is a time of nourishment, expansion, and celebration. A wonderful time to practice gratitude for all the abundance in your life today.

Emotions and feelings are heightened and magnified during a full moon. This is your chance to meet and confront your shadows, so you can heal and move forwards.

Elements of a moon circle

Our FULL moon circles will usually take place at our San Jose location in the backyard garden (weather permitting of course!).

Feel free to bring a cushion, yoga mats, or a blanket to sit on, and an item such as tarot/ oracle cards, crystals, essential oils, flowers, stones, candles, shells, feathers, or even dried herbs to charge and place on our sacred altar. We always opt for a circle because it creates a sense of unity, inclusion, and collective energy; plus it eliminates any hierarchy.

Theme

Each full moon will be in a different astrological sign, depending on the date it falls on; and a moon circle is often themed around the sign the moon is in that month.

For example, if the new moon is in Cancer, then the theme might be self-care. If the new moon is in Gemini, then the theme might be communication. In contrast, the full moon always represents the shadow side of each astrological sign.

Nourish

We always begin or end our circles by nourishing our bodies, through some kind of delicious plant-based food or drink. Water, herbal teas, cacao, and home-baked sweet cakes and treats are often eaten.

Every moon circle will be a different experience

Every moon circle will be slightly different, depending on the women that show up, and the different energy we’re working with at that time. But that’s the beauty of it. Each one is utterly unique, woven with its own special blend of magic. The most important thing is that you show up fully in the moment, and you focus on enjoying this shared experience.Because every woman in that room with you is there for a reason. Your soul has found its way here on purpose. Maybe you’ll have a revelation, an awakening, or a powerful moment of transformation.

Who knows?

Be open to what is trying to come through you, and it won’t pass you by.

Our Full Moon Lodges are powerfully held by Fountainetta Coleman, sound alchemist & DJ

Full Moon Ceremony + Dance

Red Tent/ Moon Lodge Ceremony (Houston)

Red Tent/ Moon Lodge Ceremony (Houston)

Thank you for your interest in the Moon Lodge. I am so honored and thrilled to be chosen to hold space for such a sacred ceremony. I know the time is now for the Divine Feminine to step into our power and be supported by the divine masculine and not by force, as it has been for the last 250 years of patriarchy, but by allowing it with ease as they will have no choice after we show up completely for ourselves. When we RE-member the power of our sacred centers: heart, womb, and yoni (pussy) we will begin to RECLAIM the divinity that has been there ALL along.

‘Pornified’ by Pamela Paul

Soooooo..... with ALL that said, I hope you have a more clear innerstanding of what the Red Tent is and will join me for one of the following gatherings from. There will be a plant-based potluck and the ceremony will start promptly so plan to arrive 15 minutes early to find parking and settle in.

Red Tent/ Moon Lodge Ceremony with Inipi

Thank you for your interest in the Moon Lodge. I am so honored and thrilled to be chosen to hold space for such a sacred ceremony. I know the time is now for the Divine Feminine to step into our power and be supported by the divine masculine and not by force, as it has been for the last 250 years of patriarchy, but by allowing it with ease as they will have no choice after we show up completely for ourselves. When we RE-member the power of our sacred centers: heart, womb, and yoni (pussy) we will begin to RECLAIM the divinity that has been there ALL along.

Soooooo..... with ALL that said, I hope you have a more clear innerstanding of what the Red Tent is and will join me for one of the following gatherings from 6-9. There will be a plant-based potluck and the ceremony will start promptly at 7 pm.

Full Moon Day Long Retreat

Full Moon Day Long Retreat

Soooooo..... with ALL that said, I hope you have a more clear innerstanding of what the Red Tent is and will join me for one of the following gatherings from 6-9. There will be a plant-based potluck and the ceremony will start promptly at 7 pm.
